Keith Sekora was the King County Sherriff’s Office in Seattle but after 9/11 happened, he felt he should be doing more. So Keith joined the ordnance disposal unit and deployed to Afghanistan. He grew proficient at disarming bombs and dismantling mine fields, which attracted the attention of the enemy.
During a mission with a special forces unit, Keith felt something like a baseball bat strike his back. While it’s unclear what exactly was used against him, his trauma plate absorbed the worst of the blow. When the medic couldn’t find an exit or entry wound, Keith was cleared for service. Wounded Warrior Project – Chad Brumpton
May 8, 2005 4:00am. Mission: Assist a team from Camp Raider in securing a 50-foot bridge on the Euphrates River, due to the team from Camp Raider getting stuck somewhere in route to the Golden Gate Bridge.
As soon as the team reached the city it was a fight to the bridge. Chad’s team was able to get to the “Golden Gate Bridge”, secure the bridge and waited for the team from Camp Raider to arrive – which ended up taking five hours. It was five hours of sporadic gun fire, mortar rounds impacting, and rockets whizzing by. After turning the bridge over to the Camp Raider team, Chad’s section started to move out. #WarriorWednesday: Army Staff Sergeant Chris Gordon
Retired Army Staff Sergeant Chris Gordon was partially inspired to join the military by the movie Courage Under Fire. Yet it is the courage Chris displayed while serving in Iraq and upon returning home that is truly inspirational. On March 13, 2005, Chris Gordon was literally blew out of his armored vehicle in Iraq when an explosive device was launched by the enemy. Due to the incident, Chris was left without his right leg and with a permanent titanium rod in his left leg.
